A Child’s Christmas in Wales

On 12/14/2013 I directed an adaptation of Dylan Thomas’s radio play “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” for the Coventry Merchant’s Association.  I invited students from the Houde School of Acting on Coventry to participate and edited the play for two adult males and three young boys. We rehearsed at the Coventry branch of the library and at Mac’s Backs Bookstore, and gave two performances/readings on the designated Christmas Shopping Day on Coventry. As Poet Laureate, introducing the public to a serious consideration of poetry is part of the job, and it was wonderful to see the amateur actors struggle with, master, and delight in the lyrical, magical  language of Dylan Thomas, whom they had never read.   Plus, I got to direct a play!
